RAISER

These wolves have the macabre ability to raise the bodies of fallen wolves to do their bidding. Raising incantations can only be done at twilight, The Raised cannot survive midday sun, and although they can be killed as easily as any other wolf, they make quite the formidable army. Not to mention… the undead are quite frightening.

TIER RATING

This is a tier three ability.

STAGES

  • STAGE 1: Beginning stage

The ability presents in a dream that seems more real than any other the user has ever had. In the dream, a mysterious figure speaks an incantation - and the dead rise from the earth to meet them. If your wolf should try the incantation, nothing of particular note seems to happen, but if they happen to try it at twilight... a creature could emerge, likely with a time delay. It may wander and find the user later. Try too often to use the incantation, and your wolf is likely to collapse into a mysterious fever, a cure for which evades the healers. The magic is too strong for them to direct at this stage.

  • STAGE 2: Intermediate

Acquired by completing three pieces of artwork or roleplay that relate directly to your ability
At this stage, it is becoming easier to raise their first Raised from the earth, and the user can perhaps test the limitations of the creatures they raise. Raising is particularly exhausting for the user in this stage, and can be used only once a month. If used more often, results may not be as intended, and the user may suffer the same fever state from Stage 1. Furthermore, in this stage, the Raiser can only raise a maximum of ten undead at any one time.

  • STAGE 3: Master

Acquired by completing a further three pieces of artwork or roleplay that relate directly to your ability.

In addition to the above, the user can now better forcus their energies, and rarely suffers the exhaustion from the previous stages. The cooldown period between use of the ability is now one week. The user can Raise up to 40 undead at one time, meaning they are able to create quite a formidable army. If they try to raise more, or use the ability too often, they will once again suffer the fever.

OVERALL RESTRICTIONS

Of the user:

The Raiser can only activate their ability by speaking the incantation: "Liver of lives, souls of the sky, to flesh we return, reborn as we die." If for some reason they cannot speak the words, or they are interrupted, the dead will not rise. The number of repitions indicates the number of dead the Raiser will reanimate (e.g. speak it three times, three will be Raised).

This ability can only be activated by the Raiser at twilight. Any earlier, or any later, and the words will have no effect.

The Raiser needs focus in order to create the Raised. As such, they cannot perform their ability on the move, and if their concentration is broken, the magic may not work.

Only the Raiser can command the Raised. It is up to the player of the Raiser to control the behaviour of the Raised during RPs, though the player can relinquish this in some unique situations (for example, a larger battlewhere it is difficult for the player to respond to a large number of other players at one time). If control is relinquished, you must ensure any involved parties are made aware of the restrictions around the Raised, and what they can and cannot do.

The Raiser cannot focus and choose to reanimate certain corpses in particular. Who or what appears is dependant on proximity alone. Remember that through it's long history, there are many many deceased wolves on the island.

The Raiser can only reanimate wolf corpses. No other animal is effected by their ability.

Some believe that in order to raise the dead, the user must give a very small piece of their soul to each body they return to life. As a result, superstition suggests that Raisers have shorter lifespans, or are prone to madness and the loss of their own self. Overuse of the ability results in a fever, which will see the user bedridden for at least two weeks, and which the healers of any pack seem unable to soothe or treat by usual method.

Of the Raised:
The Raised are the dead, reanimated. They are largely unidentifiable as anything other than moving corpses. They can move at the same pace as a living wolf, but they do not have the ability to react to a situation. If you ordered them to walk in a straight line and never stop, they would do so without every changing course, even if it meant they walked into the ocean and drowned.

They should not take the appearance of any in-game deceased character without the express written permission of the owner of that character. For example, if Malaysia were to die, the Raiser could not reanimate her body without the express permisson of Loomi. A Raised creature that takes the appearance of an in-game deceased character will not hold their memories, personality, or be anything like the deceased in any way other than their likeness. Raising an in-game deceased character can only be done once.

The Raised must be depicted as with all limbs intact, but they can be missing other parts for spook effect (such as eyes), and it is not unusual to be able to see their bones. They do not bleed, and they do not feel pain or show emotions. They do not need to eat, drink, sleep or even rest. They are not sentient - simply hollow shells to which a small fracture of life has returned to.

Commands must be spoken aloud to the Raised, by their Raiser. They understand only simple instructions - e.g. go here, kill that, move this. They can only follow one instruction at a time. If unordered, they will simply stand still in one spot and wait. If the Raiser moves, the Raised will follow them, unless instructed not to.

If directed to fight, the Raised are not particularly fast or more powerful than a living wolf, but they are relentless and will not cease unless commanded by the Raiser. As they feel no pain, and understand no voice but their masters, they cannot be distracted.

The Raised can be killed in a battle by tearing the throat, or in the absence of a flesh throat, snapping the neck. They can also be drowned, and cannot survive falls from a height. They will also cease to exist in the light of the midday sun, which they cannot survive, so their lifespans are fairly short. When killed, the body will extinguish of life and return to the earth, where it may occasionally crumble into dust (if the vessel was particularly long-deceased).
