Your character has developed the ability to transform their appearance, albeit temporarily, into the appearance of another wolf! As with all magic, this has its quirks and limitations, but depending on your motivation, there’s plenty of room for mischief...

STAGES

• STAGE 1: Beginning stage

Your wolf has no control of their ability during this stage. The ability appears fleetingly, with no input from the user. At first it is small changes, like their eye colour flickering into a different shade, or their coat seeming to shift from dark to light and back again in the blink of a while. As the ability begins to manifest, they will, at random, briefly phase into the appearances of nearby wolves for a few seconds, or possibly up to a full minute. They are, for a time, simply a shell through which the Changeling begins to flicker and grow.

 

• STAGE 2: Intermediate

Acquired by completing three pieces of artwork or roleplay that relate directly to your ability
Your wolf, having noticed their burgeoning ability, has begun to control it by focusing their mind. With a clear head and a quiet setting, they find that if they focus their thoughts on one wolf in particular, they can shift into them for a short time. The shifting process is painful during this stage, as the Changeling seems to be able to feel their bones changing form. During this stage, they begin to be able to hold the Changeling form for longer durations, up to an hour at a time. During this stage, they must wait 48 hours before they can use the ability again.

 

• STAGE 3: Master

Acquired by completing a further three pieces of artwork or roleplay that relate directly to your ability.

In addition to the above, the user is now able to hold the Changeling form for up to 4 hours at a time. The cooldown lowers with their mastery of the ability, and they must now only wait 12 hours before they can use the ability again. They are now able to phase into their Changeling forms with greater ease and speed, and almost no significant pain.

 

OVERALL RESTRICTIONS

This ability allows you to assume the appearance of characters controlled by other players. As such, it is absolutely critical that you obtain permission from others prior to using this ability in interactions with them and/or prior to using this ability to assume the appearance of their character. You must also clearly explain the effects of the ability to the parties involved to prevent any confusion.

The user must have encountered a character face to face in order to be able to assume their appearance. It is preferred that the player primarily assumes the appearance of characters they have actually completed roleplays with, to avoid falling into the loophole of “past relationships” and being able to transform into every wolf on the island with zero effort. However, past relationships which are immediate family could be acceptable (mother/father, brother/sister, grandparents). Please contact staff prior to assuming a character’s appearance if you are ever unsure.

The user can assume the appearance of any character they have met, however, the longer time that has passed since they last saw them, the less time they can sustain the Changeling form. For example, if the user were in Tier 3, and they had last seen Malaysia a day ago, they could sustain her form for the full 4 hours. However, if they had last seen Malaysia 2 months ago, they would not be able to sustain her form much longer than 1-2 hours. Longer periods of distance mean shorter periods of the form sustained. For example, if they have not seen a wolf for years, they may lose the ability to assume their appearance. As with all abilities, we allow you flexibility, but will step in if we feel this restriction is being misused.

In stages 1 and 2, everything about the user will change externally, but their voice will not. As such, the Changeling will need to be clever and wary about how they speak, depending on the appearance they have assumed. In stage 3, the Changeling is finally able to assume the voice of the individual they have impersonated.

The user can only assume the appearances of other living wolves. They cannot assume the appearance of deceased wolves, nor can they assume the appearance of any other animal. They cannot assume the appearance of a wolf they have never met.

To an outside observer, the transformation happens in the blink of an eye. There is no magical light or slow-mo wind - the Changeling is simply themselves in one moment, and someone else in the next.
