enthrall

Your character has discovered that they can use their voice and eye contact to stun or hypnotise another wolf for a short time, and even cause them to act under your character's suggestion… almost as though they have cast a spell. This truly is a remarkable ability.

STAGES

  • STAGE 1: Beginning stage

Your wolf discovers that their powers of persuasion seem to be far more successful than usual, but only when they hold direct eye contact and verbalise a command. In this stage, your wolf seems to be able to make only small requests of others, rather than life-changing actions, and the effect of their enthrall seems to wear off within the hour. It does not seem to work consistently during this stage, and targets occasionally do things that are not entirely what was asked (a request to bring dinner could result in a delivery of brambles, for example). During this stage, they must wait 24 hours after an enthrall wears off, before they can use the ability again.

 

  • STAGE 2: Intermediate

Acquired by completing three pieces of artwork or roleplay that relate directly to your ability
The strength of your enthrall ability grows in this stage. Smaller suggestions seem to work far better and with better results, now. You are now able to make larger requests of those under your control, but it does not come without extreme concentration, often resulting in exhaustion. The effects of your enthrall seem to stick for a few hours by this stage. During this stage, they must wait 12 hours after an enthrall wears off, before they can use the ability again.

 

  • STAGE 3: Master

Acquired by completing a further three pieces of artwork or roleplay that relate directly to your ability.

In addition to the above, the user is now able to exercise a stronger control over the autonomy of others, up to and including inciting their target to attack or kill. These kinds of top-tier enthralls still cause great exhaustion, but all other smaller enthralls come as easily to your character as breathing. The user is now able to hold an enthrall for up to 24 hours, before their control wears off. During this stage, they must wait 8 hours after an enthrall wears off, before they can use the ability again.

 

OVERALL RESTRICTIONS

This ability removes some autonomy from the characters controlled by other players. As such, it is absolutely critical that you obtain permission from others prior to using this ability in interactions with them, and clearly explain the effects of the ability to the parties involved to prevent any confusion.

 

The user must have eye contact with their target, and then clearly vocalise their instruction (e.g. “Walk to the border and wait there”, “bring me a freshly killed rabbit”, etc). If eye contact or hearing are obscured in any way, the enthrall will not take effect. For this reason, blind and/or deaf wolves are entirely immune to the enthrall’s charm. Additionally, if the verbal instruction is not clear, the results of the enthrall may not be as expected.

 

The user cannot hold any other wolf under their thrall forever. This ability always wears off, though the cooldown duration varies between stages.

 

The user can only enthrall one wolf at a time. Attempts at a different enthrall on another character will fail, if the earlier enthrall has not yet worn off.

 

The results of any enthrall are still subject to the usual rules of existence. For example, the enthrall could not command a non-magical wolf to perform magic, nor could they command someone to fly, or other such nonsensical things. Similarly, the enthrall does not imbue their targets with any extra power. If, for example, they enthrall a character and request that they attack and kill a bear, it’s entirely possible the enthralled character will die. Just because they have been enthralled, does not necessarily mean what they are asked to do will be successful.

 

The enthrall cannot make anyone fall in love, or create or manipulate emotions in any way. The enthrall only controls the body of their target, like a puppet master. They could not make someone hate someone else, but they could, for example, fabricate an argument or instruct the enthralled to fight.

 

Wolves who have fallen prey to an enthrall will clearly remember what they have done under the enthrall’s influence, but they will not have any understanding that they have been manipulated by magic, unless the user chooses to inform them of such. You should be sure to communicate this stipulation to any of your RP or plot partners where use of your ability will feature.
